Mock disaster tests our business continuity plan

01 March 2005

During the past year CITEC has continued to improve its business continuity capabilities though an ongoing and stringent testing regime.

As part of our business continuity management program, CITEC undertakes regular testing to ensure we meet, and continue to improve on, our requirements as mandated by the Queensland Government's agency preparedness program, and our obligations under certification to AS/NZS 7799.2 Information Security Management Systems.

In addition to regular technical and communications tests, CITEC recently completed a scenario test to review our current business continuity plan (BCP) and emergency procedures.

A scenario or desk top "walk though" involves the staging of a mock disaster situation (by providing information and assumptions to those involved), to allow a panel of staff to step through each action documented in the business continuity plan as if the situation was really happening.

This activity proved most useful, not only in testing the document but also in raising awareness among senior staff and highlighting further improvements to the document and process.

If you would like to know more about how CITEC's business continuity expertise could assist your business, please contact CITEC's Principal Technology Consultant and Solution Architect, Gary Whitelaw on 07 3227 6954.
