The solution is just a phone call away

How many times have you been faced with a business problem that requires time and resources you simply don’t have? CITEC’s ICT consultants are regularly called upon by customers in this situation and are able to provide information and advice to achieve the outcomes required, on time and on budget.
Graeme Hyland, Information Management Policy Consultant within the ICT Service Co-ordination unit at Queensland’s Department of Education and Training (DET), recently engaged CITEC’s consulting service to address requirements around ICT security disaster recovery and business continuity.
“DET needed to align with the Queensland Government’s Information Security Standard 18, which meant we needed to develop frameworks for information security, disaster recovery and business continuity plans,” explained Graeme.
“We chose to engage consultants for this project because the work needed to be done quickly and proficiently.”
Starting the project in early May, CITEC conducted an environmental scan, consulted with various stakeholders and facilitated workshops to iron out any problems with the framework. The frameworks were delivered in time to meet DET’s 30 June deadline.
“We were confident that CITEC would meet our brief and were happy with the outcome,” said Graeme.
CITEC is also regularly asked to provide ICT strategic planning consulting services when major business changes are being effected or planned.
The Integrated Justice Information Strategy (IJIS) program, a whole of Queensland Government project to transfer standardised case data between criminal justices agencies and reduce data re-entry and delays in forwarding information, is an excellent example of how CITEC consultants can add value from the start to the completion of a major change.
The first initiative of the IJIS program relates to the initial charging of an offender. It involves the processing of the offender beginning with the Queensland Police and moving through to the Queensland Magistrates Court for when the offender makes their first court appearance. The data transfer of charge information will occur through a central hub which establishes the infrastructure for future IJIS data flows.
CITEC has assisted this project by providing eight consultants to develop business requirements documents and detailed design specifications. Four CITEC staff have helped to develop the hub component.
CITEC is also supporting the Queensland Government Electronic Marketplace (QGEM) infrastructure which the IJIS hub will be using, and the CITEC support team has assisted the initial agencies, Queensland Police Service and Justice, in testing the connectivity of their infrastructures with the QGEM.
Garry Robinson, Acting Director, IJIS says IJIS appreciates the efforts of CITEC’s consultants to provide high quality resources in very tight timeframes.
