ASIO says CITEC is secure
01 December 2004
Strong passwords, intrusion detection systems, firewalls, anti virus software, properly patched operating systems, solid backup schemes and business continuity plans are some of the building blocks of information security. Systems security is vitally important, but what about physical security?
Organisations familiar with the design of a comprehensive Information Security Management System (ISMS) recognise that physical security is a key component of an effective approach to information security.
CITEC’s General Manager of Technology Strategies and Services Bob Gurnett, places great importance on physical security and says that CITEC’s Brisbane data and network management centres have gained a physical security certification following a recent inspection by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) T4 Protective Security Group.
“This means our physical and procedural security, which include measures such as our data and network management centres being monitored and patrolled 24x7, and staff undergoing and gaining appropriate security checks and clearances, are of the highest standard,” said Bob.
“CITEC already has certification to the AS/NZS 7799.2.2003 standard; this and our new ASIO certification qualify us to deliver a full spectrum of services to State and Commonwealth Government Agencies.
“Within our facilities we can meet the requirements of the Commonwealth Protective Security Manual for the storage, handling and processing of National Security Classified Material up to and including, “Secret” and Non-National Security Classified Material up to and including, “Highly Protected”.
“With CITEC’s information and physical security credentials in place and regularly audited, our clients can feel confident that we are in a foremost position to undertake data centre management, and in particular the hosting of sensitive systems and infrastructure.”
